Kogi Govt Queries Traditional Ruler for Alleged Election Partisanship

In a recent development, the Kogi State Government has issued a query to the traditional ruler, The Ohimege Igu, Konto-Nkarfe, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Gambo Isa Kotofor, accusing him of engaging in partisan politics during the recently concluded governorship election.

The query, dated November 22, 2023, and referenced no MLGCA/CHI/S/P/359/1/36, was signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Salami Ozigi Deedat, and came to light on Sunday.

The government’s query explicitly alleges that the royal father intentionally involved himself in partisan politics during the gubernatorial election, a move considered seriously detrimental to the security of his domain. The document points out that the partisan role played by the traditional ruler led to a crisis resulting in the tragic death of an innocent young lady and injuries to several others.

The query states, “This blatant action of yours is a sad contradiction of your expected role as a revered Royal Father of your status. It is more worrisome that you acted unbothered when the much-coveted peace and security of the State was being threatened by your action.”

The traditional ruler is given 48 hours to provide a written explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. The government may also call for oral explanations when a panel is set up to examine the case.

The Kogi State Government emphasizes the gravity of the situation, urging the traditional ruler to prioritize the response to the query. As of the time of this report, it remains unclear whether the royal father has responded to the query. The unfolding events will shed light on the resolution of this matter.
