Kuti’s Wife, Yetunde Rejected By Family

Yetunde Kuti, the wife of Nigerian musician Seun Kuti, has disclosed the concerns expressed by her family at the time of her marriage decision. In a video released by TVC Entertainment during an interactive segment on the show Yourviewtvc, she revealed that her relatives had informed her that marrying Seun Kuti would mark the end of her life and that she would become just one of his 35 wives.

Yetunde Kuti explained that her family held this perception about her husband Seun Kuti due to the number of wives his father, Fela Kuti, had married. The concerns expressed by her family reflected the traditional and cultural expectations surrounding marriage, especially in cases where polygamy is associated with a family’s history.

Her revelation adds a personal touch to the challenges that individuals may face when their choices in marriage clash with societal norms and perceptions. The story also highlights the influence of family expectations and cultural backgrounds on individuals’ decisions regarding their personal lives.

In her words, she said, “I have always had the idea of not wanting to be married, and my family was expecting me not to get married, especially to Seun. I grew up with people whose marriages were not stable and looked at it from their perspective, and I realized that everybody has their own reasons why their marriages didn’t work, and people can’t just continue like that.”

“There’s a sacrifice that one has to make, but some people don’t want to make the sacrifice. My family said my life would end if I married Seun Kuti and that I would just be one of his 35 wives. They said his father married many wives and that he would marry more than him.”
