The Chairman of the Lagos Assembly’s ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the ‘disappearance’ of Adebola Akin-Bright’s small intestine, Noheem Adams, has informed his colleagues that Dr. Abayomi Bayewu, the doctor who performed surgeries on the boy, was not a qualified surgeon.
Adebola Akin-Bright tragically passed away on Tuesday shortly after the House called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide further assistance for him to seek treatment abroad.
During Thursday’s plenary, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, directed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, to write to the state police command requesting Bayewu’s arrest.
According to a statement from the Media Assistant to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Eromosele Ebhomele, Adams revealed that Bayewu informed the committee that he did not conduct any medical examination on the boy before the first surgery, which he performed himself.
Adams further stated that, as a doctor, Bayewu should have sent the excised part of the boy’s body to a pathological department for testing. However, Bayewu claimed that the body parts were accidentally discarded, and he had planned to perform a third surgery before Noheem was taken to LASUTH (Lagos State University Teaching Hospital).
Following Noheem’s testimony, the House expressed condolences to the bereaved family, with the Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, suggesting the sealing of the hospital.
