“Lagos Authorities to Seal Homes Lacking Waste Bins”

Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) will commence the sealing of residences without waste bins on Lagos Island and Mainland starting from July 7. The decision comes after issuing prior warnings to the affected areas two months ago.

In a statement, LAWMA Executive Director, Finance, Kunle Adebiyi, emphasized the importance of residents procuring waste bins for their homes and adopting proper environmental practices. The intention to seal notice serves as a final warning to those who have yet to comply with waste management guidelines.

The enforcement action aims to promote responsible environmental behavior and reduce pollution in the city. The LAWMA enforcement team will conduct thorough inspections to identify individuals, households, or businesses neglecting waste management rules. Violators will receive specific instructions to rectify the situation and avoid further penalties.

This is phase one of the exercise, and additional areas in the state will be visited to ensure complete compliance. Adebiyi urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment by adhering to waste management regulations and procuring standard covered bins.

LAWMA has implemented various initiatives, including waste sorting campaigns, recycling programs, and public awareness campaigns, to improve waste management and minimize environmental impact. Residents are encouraged to support Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in establishing a cleaner and healthier environment. They should also utilize waste management services provided by private sector operators and avoid indiscriminate waste disposal.

Together, residents and LAWMA can create a sustainable and livable environment in Lagos.
