Lagos Governor Vows to Ensure Boy’s Recovery: A Heartwarming Commitment

In a gesture of compassion that touched hearts across Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged to cover all medical expenses for 12-year-old Adebola Akin-Bright, a boy whose small intestines were mysteriously missing. This heartwarming promise was made during the governor’s surprise visit to Adebola and his mother at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

With genuine empathy, Governor Sanwo-Olu declared, “I paid an unscheduled visit to Debola Akin-Bright at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). After listening to Debola’s mum and the medical officers in charge of his care, I gave him my word that I would not only take over his medical care and expenses, I would also ensure that everything is done to get him better, and back at home with his loved ones.”

The touching story began when Deborah Abiodun, Adebola’s mother, reached out to the governor, seeking answers about her son’s missing intestines, allegedly occurring during his treatment at LASUTH. The hospital initially denied the allegations, defending its reputation as a renowned tertiary institution with highly skilled medical consultants and cutting-edge facilities.

In a follow-up statement, LASUTH clarified, “The patient in question was referred to our hospital after having two surgeries carried out in a private hospital. He required extensive optimization in our facility before a corrective surgery could be carried out. At the surgery, which was carried out by an experienced pediatric surgeon and her team, certain strange findings were discovered.”

Despite the challenging situation, LASUTH firmly stated, “Clearly, our hospital carried out a corrective surgery and did not wilfully remove any organ or structure.” They emphasized their commitment to cooperating with the state agency investigating the case and expressed empathy for the patient’s family.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s compassionate promise not only ensures Adebola’s medical journey but also shines a spotlight on the power of empathy and collective support in the face of adversity. The people of Lagos stand united in the hope for Adebola’s full recovery and a reunion with his loved ones.
