Lagos Impounds 15 Tankers for Wrongful Parking on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway

In a proactive move to alleviate traffic congestion, the Lagos State Government has taken stringent action against indiscriminate parking along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) impounded 15 tankers found parked without regard for traffic regulations along the 2nd Rainbow and the Mile 2 Bridge.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, the enforcement operations were carried out under the directives of the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa. The impounded tankers were causing significant traffic disruptions, leading to gridlock in the state.

Peter Gbejemede, the Director of Operations of LASTMA, affirmed that the enforcement operations would persist until there is no more illegal or careless parking contributing to traffic congestion in the state. The operation targeted not only the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway but also areas within Mile 2 Estates where some tankers were found parked indiscriminately.

Gbejemede emphasized that the enforcement exercise aligns with the law and will continue relentlessly until a zero-tolerance stance on illegal and indiscriminate parking is achieved across the state. The Special Adviser on Transportation, Sola Giwa, urged motorists to collaborate with the government by promptly informing LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailers or trucks. Hotlines have been provided for this purpose: 08100565860, 08129928515, and 08129928593.

This decisive action by the Lagos State Government reflects its commitment to maintaining smooth traffic flow and ensuring the safety and convenience of road users in the bustling metropolitan area.
