Lagos motorist sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted robbery

Sulaiman Olabode, a 36-year-old driver convicted of attempted robbery, was sentenced to 14 years in jail by an Ikeja High Court on Monday.

Following a plea bargain motion, Justice O.A. Ogala rendered sentence on an amended charge of attempted robbery.
Olabode first pleaded not guilty to a count of armed robbery during his first appearance, but as the trial continued, he chose a plea bargain arrangement.
Following that, the defendant chose to file for a plea bargain deal, which resulted in the charges being amended.

The prosecution counsel notified the court about the one-count revised charge at the case hearing on Monday.

According to the court, Olabode attempted to rob one Adedeji Oluwaseun of his Nokia X Windows phone.
On September 18, 2016, the offense was committed at No. 34 Gbeleyi Street, Alakuko, Lagos State.
The prosecution claimed that this act violated Section 298(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
Olabode entered a guilty plea to the charge.
The prosecution counsel requested the court to impose the entire extent of the defendant’s plea deal.

As a result, Justice Ogala ruled Olabode guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in prison, beginning on October 28, 2016, the day of his remand.
