The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has assured the public of adequate traffic management and control during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. This assurance is particularly relevant considering the ongoing construction works in various parts of the state and the expected increase in social activities during the festive season.
The agency’s acting General Manager, Bakare Oki, emphasized the collaboration with other government agencies, including the Kick Against Indiscipline (K.A.I) agency, to prevent illegal traders’ activities from disrupting traffic flow around markets. LASTMA will deploy personnel for routine patrols and increased presence at major road intersections, especially known traffic flashpoints.
Motorists are urged to adhere to traffic regulations, maintain speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and conduct regular maintenance on their vehicles. The statement also highlights the importance of responsible driving, emphasizing the consequences for those who violate road safety laws. The LASTMA boss is scheduled to engage with market leaders for additional advocacy on compliance with environmental laws during the festive season.
