LAWMA launches manhunt for motorist who threw waste from car

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has initiated a manhunt for a motorist with the license plate FST 670 YF, who reportedly discarded waste from her vehicle’s window onto the road.

In a statement released via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), LAWMA reported that the incident occurred at the Adeniyi Jones junction, heading towards Aromire in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.

According to the statement, all attempts to persuade the woman to pick up the litter were unsuccessful, as she drove away.

The statement from LAWMA read, “A woman driving a yellow car, with license plate FST 670 YF, was sighted this morning at Adeniyi Jones junction inwards Aromire, dropping waste from her car. All efforts to make her pick up the waste proved abortive, as she drove off.”

LAWMA informed its sister agency, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), about the incident and instructed them to intercept the vehicle if spotted within the city.

If located, the woman will be detained and prosecuted in accordance with Lagos state’s environmental laws.

“All LASTMA officials are hereby notified to flag her car down anywhere she is seen. She will be arrested and prosecuted according to the environmental laws of the state,” the statement added.

The agency emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between residents and the government to maintain a clean and orderly environment, stating that the progress in environmental cleanliness cannot be sustained when a few individuals disregard government initiatives.

“We cannot consolidate on the efforts to make the environment cleaner and better when a few individuals are bent on derailing the government’s efforts,” the statement concluded.
