“LP Rejects Tribunal Judgment”

The leadership of the Labour Party has expressed its strong dissatisfaction with the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, which dismissed their petitions. The panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, rejected the LP’s petitions, characterizing them as “clearly based on rhetoric.”

The LP had raised various claims in their petitions, including challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the election winner due to his failure to secure 25 percent of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), asserting Tinubu’s incompetence to contest the election due to his forfeiture in the United States, and alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to transmit results to the INEC election results viewer, among other issues.

In response to the judgment, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, declared that the party rejects the judgment in its entirety. He called the judgment unjust and claimed that it did not reflect the law or the will of the people.

Ifoh further stated that the party would consult with its legal team before deciding on its next steps. He urged party supporters to remain calm and hopeful, emphasizing that democracy was at stake, and the party would not give up on Nigeria.

He said, “We can only weep for democracy in Nigeria but we refuse to give up on Nigeria. Details of the party’s position will be presented after consultation with our lawyers after the Certified True Copy of the judgment is made available to us. We urge all lovers of democracy to remain focused and hopeful because a new Nigeria is possible.”
