Azuka Ndujekwu, an importer who is accused of bringing codeine and tramadol into the country illegally, was placed in the custody of the Nigeria Customs Service by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday.
Following a request for the defendant’s continued detention until the outcome of the investigation and case prosecution, Justice Akintayo Aluko issued the remand order.
The NCS charged Ndujekwu with bringing in illegally 10 cartons of Super Royal, 225 Tramadol, and 754 cartons of codeine, all of which were still considered to be illegal substances.
Additionally, he was accused of smuggling the drugs into the nation in a single 40-foot container with the marking MRKU 553432.
Ndujekwu was charged with providing the Customs with false information.
Mrs. KehindeBode-Ayeni, a lawyer for the NCS, urged the court to issue the order in a motion exparte application.
