In the Rumukalabo neighborhood of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, a young guy only known as Akpan was shot and killed by gunmen who were thought to be cultists.
It was said that the man, known by his nickname Fregene, was being followed home by the gunman on Wednesday night after seeing a football game
The gunmen shot Fregene twice in the neck at close range, our correspondent has learned, and then left him lying in a pool of his own blood.
“After the cult boys left, the man, Akpan’s body was just there on the ground,” stated a resident who asked to remain anonymous. We don’t have guns like these fellows, so nobody could do anything.
As a result, there was chaos and even nearby residents fled. The once serene location changed into something different. Individuals were scrambling to protect themselves.
Near the scene of the event on Thursday morning, locals and onlookers were observed talking about the problem. Some neighbors voiced concern that the police may make a mass arrest, while others demanded a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable.
It was learned that although Akpan had lived in Port Harcourt for a while, he was originally from Akwa Ibom State.
When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesman for the state police command, stated she will inquire with the nearby police division and provide input for our report.
As of Thursday night, when I filed this report, she still hadn’t done so.
