Olamide Tailor, 32, a suspected the car thief who was apprehended by a team of detectives, described to them how he and his accomplice Habeeb planned to use pepper to steal a Toyota Corolla from an Uber driver.
The suspect informed the detectives that he and his companion had ordered an Uber taxi from Fagba to take them to Fela’s shrine, only for them to turn around and steal the vehicle from its owner.
“Habeeb asked the Uber driver to return us back to the hotel while we were on the way, pretending that he had left his phone in our hotel room.
Habeeb entered our room at the hotel after walking down the stairs. He returned a short while later holding pepper in his hand, and sat down next to the driver.
“Habeeb poured the pepper into the driver’s eyes as the journey continued. The car abruptly came to a stop, and the driver leaped out screaming. I drove off in the car as Habeeb ran off before he realized what was occurring.
According to SP Hauwa Idris Adamu, a spokesman for Zone 2 Police Command who confirmed the event, Tailor was apprehended and the stolen Toyota Corolla was found.
