The Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to provide the military with the necessary equipment, manpower, and resources to address the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria. He made these remarks during his visit to the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Badaru acknowledged the significant efforts of the Army in tackling insecurity and assured the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, that President Bola Tinubu would offer the Army the required support to enhance its operations. He emphasized the need for the military to continue its current efforts across various theaters of operation until peace is restored in many parts of the country.
The Minister stated, “We are aware of the equipment, combat enabler, and manpower needed, among others, to effectively combat issues like oil theft and insurgency. The Federal Government will provide what you need to bring an end to insecurity. The President will do it. He has never denied our requests. But we must continue to show results. You have done fantastically well. Continue to do your best until peace returns.”
In response, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, assured that the military’s current offensive against terrorists and other criminal elements would be sustained. He also noted that the government’s visible intervention has positively impacted their operations, and they are committed to defeating insecurity.
These statements reflect the government’s commitment to addressing security concerns in Nigeria and supporting the military in their efforts to maintain peace and stability.
