The Minister of Transport, Senator Saidu Alkali, has issued directives to contractors working on the Kaduna-Kano rail line to enhance the security of the construction materials and infrastructure against vandalism. The minister gave these instructions during an inspection of the project site in Makarfi Local Government area of Kaduna state.
Senator Alkali emphasized the importance of safeguarding the construction materials and rail track against theft and damage. He specifically directed the contractors to replace the existing metal clips with anti-theft clips that are more secure.
In addition to addressing security concerns, the minister acknowledged the challenges posed by security issues in the region. He expressed the commitment of the government to collaborate with security agencies to ensure the timely completion of the Kaduna-Kano rail project.
The project coordinator of the China Civil Engineering Construction Company, Mark Zoe, reported that the project has reached a 22.6 percent level of completion. However, the contractors highlighted security challenges in the area, citing incidents of staff kidnappings along the route.
Efforts to secure critical infrastructure like rail projects are crucial for the development and connectivity of regions and the safety and efficiency of transportation networks.
