In a chilling revelation, the Delta State Police Command paraded Sofia Nkwo, a 24-year-old woman, for the horrific murder of her own one-year-old son. Nkwo confessed to the heinous act, citing inability to care for the child due to abandonment by the father.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, expressed dismay at Nkwo’s actions, highlighting the gravity of infanticide. The incident, reported on April 28, 2024, shook Oleh Division, with Nkwo dumping her son in a well in Araya community, Isoko South LGA.
Nkwo’s confession sent shockwaves through the community, as she admitted to her dire circumstances leading to the tragic end of her child’s life. Her arrest followed the discovery of the abandoned child by local children playing near the well.
In addition to Nkwo’s case, the police paraded suspects involved in various crimes, including fake alcohol production, murder, kidnapping, and car theft. Among the alarming trends were kidnappings and killings in Ika North-East and Ika South, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
CP Olufemi assured the public of proactive measures, deploying personnel to the affected areas and collaborating with neighboring Edo state Command to address the security challenges along the Delta-Edo border.
As the investigation unfolds, the Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to combating crime and ensuring justice for victims.
