The Central Planning Committee for the burial of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, has refuted claims that the family is soliciting funds for his burial. Mr Ibu will be laid to rest on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Chairman of the Burial Committee, Monday Diamond Ani, described the claims of online fundraising by Mr Ibu’s family as “manipulative, malicious, and fabricated.” Ani emphasized that despite the substantial medical expenses incurred during Mr Ibu’s illness, the committee has made comprehensive plans for his burial. He condemned those spreading false information and warned against tarnishing Mr Ibu’s reputation.
The burial events will include a star-studded tribute performance at the Base Event Center Enugu and a novelty match on June 25 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. Notable personalities and celebrities, including Rudeboy, Flavour, and Pete Edochie, are expected to attend. Ani expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Government and other supporters for their contributions, clarifying that while customary fundraising efforts are ongoing, no official solicitation was made by the family.
