The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported a series of successful airstrikes against criminal elements in different operational areas, resulting in significant impacts on criminal activities. The Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, issued a statement on Sunday detailing the recent achievements.
In the Niger Delta Region, NAF targeted illegal oil refining activities that have been causing environmental damage and affecting the nation’s oil output. On August 11, NAF aircraft conducted air interdiction missions at an illegal refining site near Bille in Rivers State. Similarly, airstrikes were launched against a known camp of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Orsumoghu, Anambra State, where intelligence indicated a potential impending attack on innocent citizens.
In another operation, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai carried out airstrikes near Sambisa Forest, targeting a once-deserted terrorists’ hideout about 1.5km East of Arra. This location had shown signs of terrorists regrouping after being displaced from areas around Lake Chad due to NAF’s previous bombardments. The successful strike resulted in neutralizing several terrorists and destroying their structures, scattering the remaining terrorists and significantly degrading their capacity to launch attacks on both military personnel and civilians.
These strategic airstrikes reflect the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to combatting criminal elements and maintaining security in various regions of the country.
