The Detroit Pistons matched the longest losing streak in NBA history by suffering their 28th consecutive defeat against the Boston Celtics.
This equals the record set by the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Despite holding a 21-point lead against the Celtics, the Pistons ultimately lost in overtime. They are set to face the Toronto Raptors next, hoping to avoid sole ownership of this unfortunate record.
Earlier in the week, Detroit became the first team to experience a 27-game losing streak in a single season with a 118-112 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. In Thursday night’s game, the Pistons, leading 66-47 at halftime, saw their advantage erased by Boston in the third quarter.
Bojan Bogdanovic’s score forced the game into overtime, but Derrick White’s 10 points secured the Celtics’ 24th win of the season and extended their perfect home streak to 15-0.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James with 17 points and 11 assists, secured a 133-112 victory against the Charlotte Hornets. Anthony Davis contributed 26 points, leading the Lakers to only their third win in nine games since winning the NBA in-season tournament. Nikola Jokic shone for the Denver Nuggets in a 142-105 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, achieving his 11th triple-double of the season.
In other games, Brandon Ingram scored 26 points as the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Utah Jazz 112-105, and the Indiana Pacers overcame a 25-point deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls 120-104. The Dallas Mavericks’ struggles continued without the injured Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, as they suffered their sixth defeat in nine games, falling 118-110 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
