NERC Advises Users to Update Prepaid Meters by November

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has called on users of prepaid meters to ensure they update their meters before November 2024. NERC shared this information on its social media platform (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

NERC clarified that this update is provided free of charge and will not impact the current prepaid units of the users. The commission advised prepaid meter users to get in touch with their respective Distribution Companies (DisCos) for more details about the update process.

In the statement, NERC emphasized that the update is essential because starting from November 2024, users might not be able to recharge their meters if they haven’t undergone the update. To facilitate this process, DisCos will issue two free Key Change Tokens (KCTs) to update the meters. NERC assured users that the update won’t affect the existing units on the meters and won’t cause them to run at a different rate.
