Netflix Unveils Official Poster for ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre’

Renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has unveiled the official poster for his upcoming Netflix series, ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.’ The series, set to debut later this year, serves as a spinoff of the original Netflix film, ‘Anikulapo.’

The poster showcases a star-studded cast, including Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Ogogo Taiwo Hassan, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Lateef Adedimeji, Uzee Usman, Gabriel Afolayan, and Owo Ogunde. Notable returning cast members from the first film add to the anticipation surrounding the series.

Afolayan shared the poster on his Instagram, building excitement for the four-part Netflix original. The first film, ‘Anikulapo,’ achieved global success on Netflix, ranking number 1 worldwide with over 8.7 million views in less than two weeks. The film also garnered multiple awards at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), including Best Movie in Africa, Best Writer, and Best Soundtrack.

‘Anikulapo’ follows the story of Saro (played by Remi), a traditional textile weaver who arrives in Oyo as a stranger. Caught in a forbidden romance with Queen Arolake (played by Ademoye), who is an unhappy wife to the king, the two run away. Saro becomes a man of influence after being saved from death by a mysterious bird, but the lovers are torn apart by betrayal. The series, ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre,’ promises to continue and expand on this captivating narrative.

In addition to the returning cast, the series features acclaimed actors such as Adebayo Salami, Layi Wasabi, Moji Afolayan, Aisha Lawal, Ronke Oshodi, Jide Kosoko, Adeniyi Johnson, and Funky Mallam. ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre’ was created by KAP Motion Pictures in collaboration with Golden Effects Pictures, boasting a team of over 600 cast and crew members. Principal photography concluded in July 2023, heightening expectations for the series’ release.
