The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken decisive action by suspending the operating license of Xejet Airlines due to allegations of using fake insurance certificates for its Embraer 145 aircraft. This move comes shortly after the regulatory authority initiated an investigation into local airlines following allegations of possessing counterfeit aircraft insurance certificates.
In a letter addressed to Xejet Limited, dated August 30, 2023, and signed by the Director-General of NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, it was stated that the aircraft insurance documents presented by the airline were not authenticated by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance as claimed.
The suspension, in accordance with Section 59 (7) of the Civil Aviation Act, cites safety considerations and public interest as grounds for the action. It mandates the immediate suspension of Xejet Airlines’ Air Operators Certificate (AOC) for the Embraer 145 aircraft involved, pending the completion of the investigation.
The letter listed the specific aircraft impacted by the suspension, including Embraer EMB-145LR, Embraer S.A EMB-145MP, and Bombardier INC. CL-600-2B19 (CRJ 200).
This decisive step reflects the regulatory authority’s commitment to upholding safety standards and ensuring that airlines operate with valid insurance coverage to safeguard passengers and the aviation industry as a whole.
