Nigeria Declares June 12 Public Holiday for Democracy Day

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 12, a public holiday in honor of Democracy Day. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Nigerians on this occasion in a statement announced by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to uphold democratic principles, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and enhancing security. He called for reflection on the efforts of Nigeria’s founding fathers to ensure the nation remains united, secure, and peaceful.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Democracy Day, the government has planned a series of activities. The announcement was made by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, acting on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
