Nigerian Army Mourns Soldier Killed in Boat Mishap

The headquarters of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt has reported the recovery of the body of a soldier who lost his life during a boat mishap in Bolo, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State. The soldier, whose identity has not been disclosed, was part of the deployment in the Niger Delta waterways to safeguard critical national assets.

According to Major Danjuma, the acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, the incident occurred on Saturday, November 25, 2023, when the gunboat carrying the soldier was hit by a turbulent wave, leading to the unfortunate accident. The soldier was initially declared missing, prompting a search and rescue mission, which ultimately led to the recovery of his lifeless body and the boat.

In a statement titled ‘Headquarters 6 Division Mourns Soldier Killed in Boat Mishap During Operation,’ Major Danjuma expressed the division’s mourning over the soldier’s death. The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Maj. Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, commiserated with the deceased soldier’s family, expressing sadness over the incident.

Maj. Gen. Abdussalam acknowledged the soldier’s sacrifice in the defense of the fatherland and service to humanity. He conveyed condolences to the family, noting that the soldier would be greatly missed by the Nigerian Army and the nation as a whole. The General prayed for the repose of the soldier’s soul and for eternal rest granted by God.
