Nigerian Troops Seize N1.2 Billion Crude, Neutralize Terrorists

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has reported that in the last two weeks, its troops intercepted stolen crude oil worth N1.2 billion, showcasing their continued efforts in combating oil theft and terrorism. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, shared this information during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, where he discussed the military’s activities over the past two weeks.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to incapacitating terrorists and preventing small-scale attacks on soft targets. He stated that these ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations have been successful in thwarting the strategic objectives of these nefarious groups. The military is determined to degrade the terrorists’ capacity to carry out small-scale attacks, which are intended to create panic in local communities.

In addition to their efforts to combat terrorism, the Nigerian troops achieved significant success in the past week. They neutralized 73 terrorists, arrested 182 individuals connected to illicit activities, and rescued 68 hostages. The troops identified and destroyed 63 illegal refining sites, which contained 15 dugout pits, 45 boats, 87 storage tanks, 128 cooking ovens, one pumping machine, and four outboard engines. Furthermore, 14 suspected oil thieves were apprehended during these operations.

The military also recovered a substantial quantity of stolen crude oil, with a total of 962,500 liters seized. Additionally, 35,420 liters of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), 38,450 liters of DPK (Dual-Purpose Kerosene), and 45,000 liters of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit) were recovered, amounting to an estimated value of N1,212,046,140.

During this period, the troops retrieved 119 assorted weapons and 1,537 assorted ammunitions, further underscoring their commitment to maintaining peace and security within the region.

The Nigerian military’s continuous efforts in addressing oil theft and combating terrorism remain vital in securing the nation and its valuable resources. These recent accomplishments demonstrate their resolve to protect the country’s interests and maintain the safety and well-being of its citizens.
