Nigerians Reject Presidency’s Claim of Falling Food Prices

Nigerians have rejected the Presidency’s claim that food prices have been falling recently. Rinsola Abiola, a Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu, said on AIT that online vendors confirmed a decrease in food prices, which she attributed to government efforts. However, Nigerians on social media disagreed, stating that prices have remained high and that any slight decrease is due to seasonal factors, not government policies.

In response to a poll by DJ Switch, a prominent figure during the #EndSARS protests, many Nigerians expressed frustration, saying the cost of food and transportation has not improved. They argued that the government’s claim does not reflect reality, as the prices of essential goods like rice, beans, and fuel have continued to rise, making it difficult for most people to afford basic items.

Overall, Nigerians remain skeptical about the government’s narrative, insisting that the economic situation is still challenging, with no significant relief in sight.
