NLC and TUC Protesters Block Offices in Jos Over Electricity Tariff Hike

Workers at the Jos Electricity Distribution Company and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in Jos, Plateau State, were denied access to their offices on Monday as members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) staged a protest.

The protesters, led by NLC State Chairman Eugene Mangji, barricaded the entrances to the headquarters of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company and the NERC offices, leaving employees stranded and unable to carry out their duties.

Mangji stated, “We have shut down the NERC office at Gold and Base. Right now, we are at the JED headquarters at Ahmadu Bello Way. We will continue until the right thing is done.”

The nationwide picket was announced in response to the recent increase in electricity tariffs, with the action beginning on Monday, May 13, 2024, following a directive from the NLC’s Central Working Committee.
