https://timelineentertainment.ng/The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has affirmed its stance on a ₦250,000 minimum wage ahead of a scheduled meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, today. This meeting follows Tinubu’s commitment to engage stakeholders further on the minimum wage issue, as announced during his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024.
In preparation for the meeting, Benson Upah, Head of Public Affairs for the NLC, reiterated the Congress’s position, emphasizing that they would uphold their demand despite the rising cost of living. “We are going to the table with our demand of ₦250,000. We have been very reasonable and patriotic,” Upah stated.
Previously, Tinubu received a report from the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage, recommending ₦62,000. However, while the state governors expressed concerns about meeting this figure, Labour remains steadfast in pushing for their proposed minimum wage.
