NLC Kogi Chairman Denounces Electricity Tariff Hike as “Daylight Robbery”

Comrade Gabriel Amari, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State, likened the recent increase in electricity tariff to “daylight robbery” and urged the federal government to reverse it to alleviate the plight of the masses.

Amari made these remarks during a picketing exercise organized by labor unions at the office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Lokoja.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the tariff regime, Amari emphasized that the government’s decision has exacerbated the suffering of the masses, portraying a lack of empathy from the present administration.

“Increase in electricity tariffs is a broad daylight robbery which will not be accepted. The government should know that people are suffering with their obnoxious policies. Nigerians are paying for electricity that they are not using,” he stated.

Amari criticized the perceived discrimination in power distribution under the current administration and warned of a potential total shutdown of the power sector if the tariff hike is not reversed.

He further denounced the privatization of the electricity sector as a failure and called on the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to cease discriminatory practices in electricity distribution.

Amari concluded by urging the government to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and address their grievances, particularly regarding exploitative policies such as the electricity tariff hike.
