The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has clarified the fire incident that occurred at the Mobil filling station in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday. The explosion, which happened around 11 a.m. during a busy period of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) sales, resulted in the destruction of at least seven vehicles. Thankfully, there were no reported fatalities.
In a statement released later, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, confirmed that the explosion was not related to the newly inaugurated NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd (NGML)/NIPCO Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Stations. He assured that all NGML facilities in Lagos, including pipelines and CNG stations, are operating safely and were unaffected by the incident.
