Ogun: eight killed in community cult clashes

Abiodun Alamutu, the commissioner of police for Ogun State, announced on Monday that eight people had died as a result of cult confrontations in the Sagamu region of the state.

Nine individuals had been detained, according to Alamutu, who spoke in Abeokuta about the four-day carnage by competing cult groups in the region.

The Sagamu residents, who talked to reporters on the condition of anonymity, begged to differ with the CP, claiming that the number of people who died in the senseless atrocities could not have been fewer than 20, with many of them being innocent and only unfortunate victims of circumstance.

However, Alamutu during the conference disclosed that a land deal that happened in the town was the actual root of the clashes.
He declared, A piece of land was sold, and the landowner paid some kind of commission or settlement to a cult group. After learning of the payment, a rival cult organization went after members of the other group to claim a cut of the commission.

According to the police chief, the scenario “degenerated into an attack and counter-attack situation” that began on Wednesday of last week and continued through Sunday, killing eight people.
He reiterated that several of the leaders of the competing cult groups had been detained while he spoke.

As we speak, nine people have been detained after being linked to the murders by evidence. From the suspects, two weapons and some cartridges that showed signs of recent use were found, the official continued.

The police chief stated that the killings were still under investigation.

As security forces fight to reestablish calm in the turbulent town, the Chairman of the local government area has restricted the usage of motorbikes in the area between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. every day.

Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya were among those detained in connection with the incident, according to Omolola Odutola, the state Police Command’s spokeswoman.

Wasiu, one person, was able to flee before the authorities came.Bolaji Ogunkemaya gave crucial information during the operation, revealing that their commander, Azubuike alias Better, had been detained by the Area Commander two weeks prior. This material demonstrates the police’s dedication to taking down these criminal organizations.
