Ogun Governor Cracks Down on Cults

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has declared his determination to crack down on suspected cultists operating in the state. He has directed security agencies to take swift action to eradicate cult-related activities in the region. This announcement came through a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Lekan Adeniran, on Monday.

Governor Abiodun expressed deep concern about the loss of lives and property resulting from clashes among cult groups and emphasized that such losses were unnecessary. He affirmed the commitment of his administration to swiftly address these criminal activities and restore peace to the affected areas, particularly Sagamu and its environs.

The governor highlighted the government’s intention to reevaluate the security framework for enhanced surveillance and tactical operations in response to the recent surge in criminal activities perpetrated by outlawed groups. He assured that the state would become a hostile environment for these criminal elements.

As part of measures to improve security, Governor Abiodun imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on both human and vehicular movement in the affected local government area. This curfew, effective from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., aims to strengthen security measures in the region and protect the lives and property of residents.

He further urged residents to collaborate with security agencies by providing valuable information that could help prevent future incidents. Security agencies have been given strict orders to deal decisively with those disturbing the peace of the town.

The governor emphasized that the new security approach would involve cooperation with the traditional institution, community and religious leaders, youth groups, and other critical stakeholders.

In conclusion, Governor Abiodun called on residents in the area to adhere to the curfew and work closely with security agencies to restore normalcy and bring the perpetrators of these criminal acts to justice. Additionally, the Sagamu Local Government chairman, Afolabi Odulate, announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew on motorcycle and tricycle movement in the region, given that these vehicles were often used as escape means by the perpetrators of violence in Sagamu.
