Ohanaeze Ndigbo to Meet Tinubu for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has revealed the organization’s intention to hold a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Iwuanyanwu made this announcement during a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Supreme Council of Nigeria Traditional Rulers, Southeast chapter. He expressed concern that other ethnic groups in Nigeria have falsely conveyed fears of Igbo secession to the Federal Government, causing suspicion around the intentions of the Igbo community.

The Ohanaeze leader argued that the Igbo people are essential stakeholders in Nigeria’s development, with over 60% of the country’s investments owned by them. He also noted that their investments and residential identities are spread throughout the nation, unlike other ethnic groups that primarily invest and reside within their geographical regions.

Iwuanyanwu emphasized the need for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, stating that his continued detention contributes to escalating insecurity in the Southeast. He also warned against individuals and groups exploiting Kanu’s popularity and detention to foment trouble and insecurity in the region for personal gain.

The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo stressed the importance of restoring peace and stability in Igboland, asserting that Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate release would be a significant step in achieving this goal.

Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe, the traditional ruler of Isiama ancient kingdom in Imo State and Chief Host of the delegation, supported the initiative. He stressed the necessity of advocating for Kanu’s release as a strategic move to address insecurity in the region and promote a harmonious cultural identity among the Igbo people.

Ohanwe also revealed plans to meet with President Tinubu, his leadership team, and other prominent Nigerians to discuss the ongoing marginalization of the Igbo community and the need to rectify the injustice surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention, despite court orders for his immediate release.
