Ondo Assembly Issues Warning After Meeting President Bola Tinubu

The Ondo State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning against any violation of the resolutions made during a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, addressing the ongoing political crisis in the state. The House convened its first plenary session on Tuesday, disclosing key resolutions from the meeting with Tinubu held last Friday in Abuja.

According to Mr. Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Assembly, one of the resolutions involves the deputy governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, being instructed to write an undated resignation letter and submit it to the President. The Speaker revealed that President Tinubu appointed him, the Secretary of the Ondo State Government (Mrs. Oladunni Odu), and the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (Ade Adetimehin) to monitor compliance with these resolutions.

Oladiji warned all stakeholders against violating the resolutions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the status quo and ceasing all impeachment proceedings. He further stated that the State Executive Council would not be dissolved, and an undated resignation letter must be submitted by the deputy governor. The resolutions also affirmed the continuity of the party’s leadership and structures, as well as the intactness of the House of Assembly leadership.

During the plenary session, 51 members of the Interim Caretaker Committee for the state’s local government areas and Local Council Development Areas were approved, following Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s request.

The heavy presence of security operatives around the Assembly complex during the session was notable. Efforts to reach the deputy governor for comments were unsuccessful, but a political associate suggested that Aiyedatiwa might be displeased with the Assembly’s decision, asserting that the House did not uphold its part of the agreement reached during the Friday meeting.

The political associate stated, “The status quo they are talking about is for the deputy governor to be acting as the governor, and that is what I expected the speaker to read today but he didn’t put that in his speech. Let’s see what happens next.”
