In his New Year statewide broadcast on Monday, the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, pledged to immortalize his late predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away last week. Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following Akeredolu’s demise, also assured the continuation and completion of all ongoing projects initiated by the former governor across the state.
Expressing gratitude for surviving the challenges of the past year, Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged 2023 as one of the most trying periods in the state’s history. He recognized the significant contributions of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, to the development of Ondo State and Nigeria.
“As promised, we will not only give our late former governor a befitting state burial but will also immortalize his name, just as we will strive to complete all the developmental projects he embarked upon as Governor of Ondo State,” stated Aiyedatiwa.
Highlighting the challenges faced in the past year, the governor emphasized the need for unity and collective effort to achieve a peaceful and prosperous Ondo State. He urged citizens to look beyond past difficulties and concentrate on building upon the foundation laid by the previous administration.
With upcoming elections in the state, Governor Aiyedatiwa called on political stakeholders to uphold the rules and avoid any form of violence. He emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct, urging political parties, aspirants, and their supporters to follow the guidelines set by the electoral umpire.

“The election should be a contest of ideas and choices, not an opportunity to settle political scores or an excuse for calumny,” the governor emphasized, signaling a commitment to fostering a democratic and peaceful electoral process in the state.
