Ondo Lawmakers Meet: Aiyedatiwa for Acting Gov

After a peace meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Friday, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly are set to convene today (Tuesday) to address crucial matters affecting the state’s political landscape.

One of the primary issues on the agenda for today’s plenary is the consideration of whether to declare the state deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the acting governor due to the prolonged absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

A reliable source within the Assembly revealed, “The House plans to sit tomorrow (Tuesday), and Aiyedatiwa may be declared acting governor during the sitting. This decision is part of the outcome of the meeting with President Tinubu.”

When questioned about the matter, the Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, stated, “I will let you know whether the meeting will be held tomorrow because we are at a meeting now; after the meeting, I will let you know.”

As of the time of filing this report, no official information had been released from the Speaker.

President Tinubu engaged with the leadership of the Assembly and the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State last Friday, aiming to resolve the protracted political crisis in the state, according to reports from The PUNCH.

Following the meeting with Tinubu, the Assembly announced that it had abandoned plans to impeach the deputy governor over alleged gross misconduct. Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his commitment to moving past past events and ensuring the inclusion of all stakeholders.

The rift between Governor Akeredolu and his deputy began after the governor’s return from a lengthy medical vacation in Germany. The Assembly’s attempt to impeach the deputy governor had previously caused divisions among lawmakers.

In the Friday meeting, all parties reportedly agreed to maintain the status quo, affirming that Akeredolu would remain governor, Aiyedatiwa would remain deputy governor, and there would be no impeachment.
