Osimhen Reaches 23 Goals, Tying Odegbami in Historic Achievement

Victor Osimhen has matched Nigerian legend Segun Odegbami on the all-time Super eagles scorer list, reaching a remarkable 23 goals for the national team.

The 25-year-old striker achieved this milestone during Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 qualifying match against Benin Republic, where he played a pivotal role in scoring a 1-1 draw.

The game, held at the Staple Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Cote d’Ivoire, saw Nigeria fall behind early after a defensive error by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Despite missing earlier opportunities, Osimhen demonstrated his determination by rising above defenders to score a crucial header in the 81st minute, saving a point for his team.

The goal not only equalized the match, but also elevated Osimhen to a joint second place alongside Odegbami on the Super Eagles’ all-time scoring list. Osimhen reached this milestone in just 37 apperances, placing him in prime position to challenge Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals.

After the match, Osimhen re affirmed his commitment to adding more goals as Nigeria prepares for their final qualifying game against Rwanda. With this result, the Super Eagles secured their position as Group D winners, having alredy qualified for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

Osimhen’s consistent form and ability to deliver under pressure have solidified his reputation as one of Nigeria’s standout players as the team looks ahead to the tournament.
