Oyo State Clears 359 Illegal Structures Near Schools

In a bid to create a conducive learning environment, the Oyo State Government has taken a decisive step by removing 359 illegal structures and shanties located around public primary and secondary schools in Ibadan.

The eviction notices were directly issued to the owners of these unauthorized shops, shanties, and structures through the principals and heads of the affected schools, who duly acknowledged the notices.

Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, personally oversaw the exercise and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring order and cleanliness within school premises.

The affected schools included those in the vicinity of Ode Aje, Orita Aperin, notably IMG, Ode Aje; Islamic Primary and Secondary Schools; IMyyG Olubadan Basic Schools 1, 2, and 3, Orita Aperin; Government Technical College, Orita Aperin; Christ Church High School; United Mission College Demonstration School 1, Molete; IDC Basic School, Adobe; St. Stephen’s Primary School, Alegongo; Community High School Alegongo.

Additionally, Issabatudeen Girls’ Grammar School, Orita Basorun; St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Yanbule; Methodist Grammar School, Bodija; Emmanuel College, U.I., and others were part of this cleanup initiative.

Commissioner Mogbonjubola stated, “We would not rest on our oars until sanity is maintained. Every student stands to learn better and maximize his or her potential, only if the learning environment is favorable. The present administration of Governor Seyi Makinde will never look away from this reality. We warn owners of the illegal shanties against further occupation of the school premises to avoid facing the wrath of the state environmental laws.” This action reinforces the government’s commitment to providing students with a conducive learning environment free from unauthorized structures.
