Mr Vitalis Nwabuzor, a passenger on an Air Peace Abuja-Port Harcourt aircraft, was caught stealing N1 million.
According to Air Peace, the incident occurred on July 27, 2023.
This occurred after another theft case on Ibom Air was recorded, in which a passenger was captured with a laptop belonging to another passenger.
Stanley Olisa, a spokesperson for Air Peace, revealed that Nwabuzor stole the money from a brown envelope but was apprehended by the owner of the money, who alerted the crew.
During the flight, Nwabuzor took another passenger’s computer bag from the overhead compartment, took the brown envelope containing the money (N1m), placed the computer bag in another luggage compartment, and moved to an empty seat at the back of the aircraft,” Olisa added.
“Despite the crew’s announcement of the proper disembarkation sequence, he was one of the first few to disembark.” He was eventually apprehended and the money was recovered from him. Varying denominations of currencies were discovered on him.”
The passenger was turned over to Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security officers for transfer to the Police for further investigation.
The police acknowledged that he had been released on bail and that the chances of his being prosecuted are limited because the owner of the money is unwilling to cooperate.
