Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has addressed recent misunderstandings surrounding his views on tithing. During RCCG’s October Holy Ghost Service, he clarified that he never suggested Christians stop paying tithes, despite online rumors to the contrary. Adeboye expressed surprise at how quickly false information spread, emphasizing that he had only apologized for any possible confusion his earlier remarks might have caused.
Adeboye explained that rather than limiting tithing to 10%, Christians should aim to give more as they grow in faith. Drawing inspiration from an experience at Kenneth Hagin’s church, where an individual pledged 90% of their earnings, Adeboye revealed that he now tithes close to 90%. He urged believers to increase their giving, stating that 10% should be the minimum for beginners, but that more mature Christians should aspire to give beyond this.
Despite his encouragement to grow in generosity, Adeboye lamented that his comments were misinterpreted online, with many falsely claiming that he advised against tithing altogether. He reiterated that 10% is a starting point and encouraged followers to give as God leads them to do more.
