The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, is unlikely to win a credible governorship election in the state. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the Imo governorship election for November 11.
The PDP argued that all electoral indicators in the state suggest that Governor Uzodimma has been rejected by the people. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the opposition party, made this statement in Abuja, emphasizing that the APC candidate lacks a fighting chance against the PDP candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Ologunagba stated, “The indicators are clear, and the November 11, 2023 election will not be different. Governor Uzodimma will not win in any Polling Unit in a free, fair, and transparent election because Imo people have found a credible, sincere, humane, and approachable leader in Senator Anyanwu.”
The PDP spokesperson alleged that the APC has resorted to violence, intimidation of citizens, property destruction, and various means to hinder opposition parties and compromise democratic institutions, as it recognizes it cannot win in a peaceful, free, and fair contest. Ologunagba asserted that the people of Imo State are determined to resist the APC, especially in the upcoming election.
He also reiterated the PDP’s demand for the immediate removal of the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Sylvia Agu. According to the PDP, Agu’s removal is necessary to ensure an impartial, free, fair, and credible governorship election in Imo State. The statement highlights the political rivalry and the stakes involved in the upcoming election.
