Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension, prolonging his stay at the club to a decade.
While the club has yet to comment officially, multiple sources confirm that the 53-year-old Spaniard has decided to renew his contract, which was set to expire at the end of this session. The new agreement may include an option for a further year, though details remain unclear.

Pep who joined City in 2016, has already secured 18 trophies, including 6 Premier League titles. His tenure has seen City achieve historic milestones, such as winning the Treble (Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League) and becoming the first English men’s team to claim four consecutive top-flight titles. They also hold the record for achieving 100 points in a Premier League season.
Despite these achievements, City are second in the League, five points behind Liverpool, and on a four-game losing streak across all competitions – an unprecedented run in Guardiola’s managerial career. Following their recent 2-1 defeat in Brighton, Guardiola remarked, “Maybe after seven years winning six Premier Leagues, maybe one year another team deserve it.”
This extension follows previous renewals in 2018, 2020, and 2022. Earlier this year, Guardiola hinted at uncertainty regarding his future, expressing the desire to ensure that any decision to stay would be “best for the club”. He also reflected on the departure of long-time ally Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, stating , “Part of me is leaving.”
Guardiola’s future has been a talking point amidst City’s recent struggles, and some speculate that uncertainty over his tenure has impacted the team’s form. Additionally, the unresolved Premier League investigation in 115 charges against City remains a looming issue. Guardiola has consistently defended the club, urging critics to await the final decision before passing judgement.
With this renewal, Guardiola becomes the Premier League’s longest serving manager, following Jürgen Klopp’s dearture from Liverpool earlier this year.
