Veteran Nollywood icon Pete Edochie recently shared his thoughts on his son Yul’s marriage during an interview with Chude Jideonwo. He revealed that he was not consulted or informed about Yul’s decision to take a second wife.
Pete Edochie made it clear that he doesn’t interfere in the affairs of his five adult sons, including Yul. He was unaware of the troubles in Yul’s marriage until he suddenly found out about the second marriage. He said, “First of all, Yul is 41 and I really don’t interfere in his affairs, no. Suddenly we heard he’s picked up a second wife. I have 5 sons, I don’t interfere with their lives you know. If they say ‘Daddy, so and so thing is happening’, good, if they don’t tell me, I don’t bother. If they tell me, beautiful. We just heard it and that’s it.”
The actor cited a previous incident where he was also unaware of Yul’s intention to run for governorship until a third party informed him because Yul did not personally tell him.
Pete Edochie expressed his love for Yul’s estranged wife, May, and stated that she was more than just a daughter-in-law to him. He praised her, describing her as a brilliant and talented person. He believes that the breakup of Yul’s marriage may have been influenced by bad counseling and advice from people around May, as he doesn’t believe they have ‘happy homes’.
The actor also expressed his disappointment at the failed marriages of his on-screen daughters, such as Ireti Doyle, Chioma Chukwuka, and Tonto Dikeh.
