Plateau man arrested by military men for killing police officer

Troops of Operation Safe Haven have detained a guy, Yakubu Shanano, for allegedly killing a mobile police officer in Plateau State.

It was discovered that in the State’s Bokkos Local Government Area, the mobile police officer assigned to the military task group tasked with preserving calm had been murdered.

Captain Oya James, a spokesman for the Military Taskforce, confirmed Shanano’s detention in a statement on Tuesday. Shanano was detained along with 14 other suspects for a variety of crimes, including drug trafficking and kidnapping.

According to the statement, “from November 6 to 13, 2023, troops of Operation Safe Haven on Operation Hakorin Damisa IV arrested 15 suspects in connection with kidnapping, murder, sale of weapons, criminal attacks, cattle rustling, sale of drugs, destruction of farms, as well as recovered weapons, ammunition, and illegal drugs. “In relation to the October 24, 2023, murder of Abdulkarim Saidu, troops detained Jerome Bulus Alamba and Denis Yohanna at Fang village in the Riyom LGA of the Plateau on November 6, 2023.In a related incident, on November 7, 2023, troops from Sector 5 OPSH apprehended one Alhaji Yakubu Shanono in the Plateau State hamlet of Bokkos LGA. Shanono was suspected of being involved in the death of a Mobile Police officer who was affiliated with OPSH.

It further stated that on November 8, military personnel working with the Pankshin Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency raided the illegal drug dealers’ hideout in Bargar village, located in Kanam Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
Four individuals were apprehended by the troops and turned over to the NDLEA for additional processing.

The statement reaffirmed Operation Safe Haven’s commitment to protecting law-abiding individuals in the Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Bauchi states by all legal means, even as it also noted that numerous more arrests had been made throughout the state. Major General AE Abubakar is the operation’s commander.

It thanked the public for continuing to support the armed forces and gave them the assurance that all detained suspects would face appropriate charges in court after their investigations were properly completed.
