The Nigeria Police Force has announced it has detained 13 people in connection with the murders of two monarchs in Ekiti State.
ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated on Thursday that efforts had been made to resolve the state’s security challenges.
On Monday, gunmen assassinated two Ekiti monarchs: the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, while the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaped.
The traditional rulers were returning from a security meeting in Kogi State when they encountered an ambush by kidnappers on the highway between Ipao and Oke Ako in Ekiti’s Ikole Local Government Area.
“The appointed AIG would lead a thorough security response to put an end to the sad happenings in Ekiti and parts of Ondo. Thirteen people have been arrested in connection with the occurrences, and the IGP assures the public that the NPF is committed to achieving justice and preventing recurrences. Adejobi asked the public to stay calm, cautious, and cooperative as efforts are made to restore peace and security to the impacted communities.
Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Council and Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, told reporters on Wednesday that the state’s monarchs will consider all options to address the state’s security situation.
Oba Faboro, who stated that the council would not disclose the measures to be used by the traditional council, guaranteed the people that the state’s insecurity problem will be resolved in no time.
The traditional ruler talked with reporters immediately after the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, convened an emergency meeting with all monarchs in the state and security chiefs to seek advise on the way forward.
The oba stated, “Any solution is acceptable; we will approach our problem with all possible solutions.”
