Police arrest six men for burglary theft

Six men were charged by the police on Friday in Lagos state’s Ojo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a complex with the intent to steal.

The defendants are Suraju Yunusa, 36, Salisu Musa, 36, Awolu Isa, 48, Sanni Ibrahim, 28 and Usman Musa, 28.
The six are on trial before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni on five counts of theft and burglary-related offenses.

However, they each entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

The defendants arranged to perpetrate the crime on September 4 in the Abule Osun neighborhood of Ojo, Lagos, according to the prosecutor, Simon Uche, who testified in court.

Uche said that the defendants and other fugitives broke into a complainant’s home, one Chigbo Udezuruigbo, in order to steal.
He revealed that the offenders had stolen parts from and damaged the complainant’s multi-purpose drilling machine.

The machine’s parts, he continued, were estimated to be worth N5.5 million.

He claimed that the offense was against sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.

Layeni approved the defendants’ requests for bail in the amount of N500,000 each, with two identically priced sureties.
