Police in Delta seize firearms, rescue kidnap victim

A kidnapping victim from the Ugolo community in Okpe LGA has been rescued by Delta State Police Command operations unharmed. The victim’s name has been concealed.

Reporters learned that on Friday, November 10, 2023, in response to a distress call regarding the kidnapping incident, Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass gave Divisional Police Officer Paul Oboware of CSP Orerokpe a marching order to activate all mechanisms and make sure the kidnapped victim was rescued unharmed.

Following the CP’s orders, the DPO mobilized men at around 1900 hours, assaulted the alleged kidnappers’ hideout in the Ugolo community, and began a technically intelligence-led investigation.

After realizing that the authorities were pursuing them, it was reported, the abductors moved their victim to the Erueni village and began haggling over a ransom.

“Once more, the group pursued these criminals with unrelenting persistence until they found a new hiding place, where they were ultimately compelled to leave the abducted individual in an incomplete structure and made their getaway,” DSP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, said reporters on Monday.

The victim was saved without incident, according to the PPRO, and he has now been reunited with his family.

The police official stated that there was still work being done to apprehend the criminals who were running.

On November 8, 2023, state command agents from the Eagle-Net Special Squad attacked Ugolo Community in Okpe LGA based on reliable intelligence, and they captured one person, Israel Akitia, 34.
One locally made cut-to-size gun with three live cartridges was found during a search of his home.

According to the police, the event is still being investigated.
In a related incident, on November 9, 2023, at approximately 1405 hours, two adult male suspects were spotted by the Agbarho Division police visibility patrol team while they were conducting a stop-and-search operation at “Five Junction,” Agbarho. The suspects threw their bags away and fled into a nearby bush upon spotting the patrol team.

One locally made pistol was found when the agents searched the luggage more thoroughly.

The PPRO stated that while efforts were being made to apprehend the evading suspects, the show was being held.

Although he congratulated Deltans “for the relatively peaceful ember months so far,” state Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass credited the development to the command’s resolution and the public’s cooperation.
