Police in Jigawa arrest man for stealing car from dealer

A 35-year-old man was detained by Jigawa State Police Command agents for allegedly stealing an automobile from a dealer in neighboring Bauchi State.

On Monday, DSP Lawan Shi’isu, the state’s police public relations officer, made this announcement in a Dutse statement.

According to Shi’isu, the suspect, a resident of the FCT’s Gwarinpa quarters, was apprehended by police in the state’s Birnin Kudu Local Government Area at around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday.

“When the patrol men spotted the vehicle driving at a high speed from a distance, all attempts to stop the driver proved futile because the driver was very agitated and refused to slow down.”

He said the offender hit a bike while attempting to elude the police, which led to the automobile being hooked and being forcibly stopped.

Shi’isu continued, “The suspect got out of the car and started to run, but he was later caught and taken to the station.”

He claimed that the police had previously been alerted by the neighboring state of Bauchi that three unidentified individuals had entered S Fawa Motors on Murtala Muhammad Way in Bauchi and pretended to purchase a stolen vehicle.

The suspects, according to him, demanded a test drive before making a purchase.

But one of the salesman insisted on going with them, so as they were leaving, the alleged auto thieves forcibly removed him and drove off, leaving him stranded.

Usman Zubairu of Federal Lowcost, Bauchi had been identified as the car’s legitimate owner, according to the police chief.

He continued by saying that the state’s police chief, Emmanuel Ekot, ordered that the case be forwarded to the Dutse Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a covert investigation.

After the investigation is over, the suspect will be charged in court, according to Shi’isu.

He added that efforts were being made to apprehend the culprits who were eluding capture.
