The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Berthrand Onuoha, has ordered an investigation into an alleged attack on a police officer during a reported political clash in the Idah Local Government Area of the state.
A statement from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, announced that the Commissioner of Police had expressed concern about a trending video showing a seriously injured police officer.
CP Onuoha condemned the incident and instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to initiate an immediate investigation into the clash.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the commitment of the Kogi State Police Command to engage with critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for the electoral process. The command is determined to provide a level playing field for all political parties during campaigns, rallies, and other election-related activities.
However, the CP warned that individuals seeking to cause violence to undermine the credibility of the electoral process should refrain from such actions, as the police will take decisive action against those disrupting the electoral process. The Kogi State Police Command is working in coordination with other security agencies in election security management.
