“Police: Lagoon Jumper Was Under the Influence of Hard Drugs”

The man who tragically jumped into the lagoon at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge area in Lagos has been identified as Buka Abana. His body was recovered on Thursday after days of search efforts by rescue workers.

Buka Abana, 30 years old, was reportedly a drug addict who had been taking Colorado, a potent synthetic drug. He had left his residence in Lekki Phase I a couple of days before the incident. His family members had formed a search party to look for him and received information that he had been seen around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge. As they approached him, he reportedly jumped into the lagoon in a tragic act.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the details of the incident. The collaborative efforts of various agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Health, Environmental Monitoring Unit, and local residents, led to the recovery of Abana’s lifeless body from the lagoon.

After the operation, the body was handed over to Abana’s family in conjunction with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, SEHMU (State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit), LASWA (Lagos State Waterways Authority) Rescue Team, and officers from the Nigerian Police Force’s Maroko Divisional Police Station.
